Rich in History

Settled in 1787 and incorporated in 1843, the Village of Clinton has a storied past ranging from its connections to George Clinton, the iron ore industry, and the lithia springs.

The Iron Ore Era

Clinton hematite iron ore was discovered in 1797 near the surface and was mined until 1963. Two large blast furnaces in the town turned out tons of cast iron between 1852 and about 1900.

Clinton Comets Hockey

Playing at the historic Edward Stanley Recreation Center (Clinton Arena), the Clinton Comets were a legendary professional ice hockey team. They dominated the Eastern Hockey League in the 1960s, capturing numerous championships and cementing the village's legacy as a true hockey town.
